SELF-PROMOTION
1. Who are you?
I consider myself creative. Many more of the concepts I imagine never manifest into reality, than those that grace my gallery. There is only so much time to spend with my muse. Often times her offerings seem to be as fleeting as morning fog, burning off when the light of day tugs me off to work.
It takes the soul of an artist to come up with a creative solution to the needs of society. I spent many years filling the needs of others as a floral designer. Although a creative outlet in its own way, it was not fulfilling in terms of personal need. Like many of us, I needed those years in the working world to create the internal environment that allowed me to pursue art.
2. What is your artistic passion?
The urge to create something others will enjoy! Magickal beings and faery art have always and forever been one of my greatest joys. I love the escape of fantasy. Photomanipulation has become a very satisfying medium for me. Although the gathering of stock images to create the concept in my head can be extremely challenging. Sometimes it is impossible to find an image that will convey what is in my mind -- the model is right, but the expression or pose is wrong. Or the type of model you are looking for just does not exist, or does not come up under the search criteria entered. (I have a giant in my head that I cannot find a model to represent) Backgrounds seem to be the easiest thing to bend to my will.
During hours spent alone engaged in creative task, my thought patterns shift, and provide me a state of freedom from stress, anxiety and negativity. Losing myself in the moment while expressing myself creatively is liberating beyond anything else I have experienced
3. Why did you get into art?
I believe that art is an inherent human characteristic. Whether the form is sculpture, painting, drawing, drawing, all forms of art have the ability to move people. Art is the most intimate form of self expression and a way to connect with others on a deeper level than anything else.
I stopped watching television a few years ago, choosing instead to exercise my mind rather than being passively entertained. Once occupied in a form of art, your mind will constantly be churning with new thoughts, ideas and imagery in a positive way. It will change your concept of the world. You will begin to see beauty and patterns in things you did not before. I relate to what George Bernard Shaw says, it's almost as if I don't have a choice but being an artist. He said: “Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable.”
As an outlet for excessive emotion, exercise of any kind, even the mental variety is great!
Feelings of anxiety, depression, anger and fear can lessen substantially when engaged in creative pursuit. Art is one kind of personal healer during stressful times.
4. How do you inspire yourself?
Many times I am inspired by music. Sometimes poetry is the spark that lights the fire. A story can be told in many ways Art inspires art, and always has it seems. Poetry becomes music, which becomes visual art, which becomes poetry. It has been happening since the dawn of time.
5. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?
The dreaded question! I hope to improve my understanding of the daunting Photoshop. I recently bought the program, and have gained a rudimentary grasp of the commands.
