Loki's Daughter

In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is usually a fair-haired virginal maiden who chooses the most valiant of the slain after battle. The valkyries bring their chosen who have died bravely to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin, where the deceased warriors become einherjar. There, when the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries are associated with ravens, and it was told that they could speak the bird’s language.
